Green Ecosystem Initiative; commonly referred to as G.E.I is a non-governmental organization established and registered in accordance to section 10 of the non-governmental organizations co-ordination act in Kenya.
The organization was founded in the year 2021 and was formerly accorded official registration by the NGO board of Kenya in the year 2024. The organization was conceptualized to actively participate and support activities/programs that promote protection and restoration of the ecosystem through partnership with like-minded institutions, organizations and individuals with this shared vision.
The NGO’s formation was motivated by the persistent negative impacts of climate change that requires radical actions to be averted to protect our planet for this generation and the future.
To address climate change, we adopt the Paris Agreement that was signed by different countries to limit global temperature rise to well below 2 degrees Celsius.
1. To help strengthen resilience and adaptive capacity to climate-related hazards.
2. To tailor sustainable projects that will improve ecosystem restoration.
3. To promote capacity building in marginalized communities for effective climate change related planning and management.
4. To promote education and awareness raising on climate change mitigation, adaptation and impact reduction.
5. To collaborate with relevant institutions in integrating climate change measures into policies, strategies and planning.
Green Ecosystem Initiative prioritizes restoration of ecosystem while involving the community in issues regarding climate change.
Despite minimal contribution towards global climatic change, Africa still suffers exceptionally from the risks associated with climate change, which include droughts, less labor productivity, floods, and diminished food production, further deteriorating African people’s health and well-being.
Drought in Sub-Saharan Africa has increased with three folds since the 1970s leading to increased disease occurrence, escalated food insecurity, malnutrition cases, and low water supply across the region.
Achieving a healthy population while not dealing with climate change will seem impossible.
On the other hand, the inclusion of community and local organizations will play a major role in combatting climate change effects. Green Ecosystem Initiative, therefore, collaborates with other organizations to ensure ecosystem protection and restoration.
Green Ecosystem Initiative empowers the community through training, strengthening local organizations, creating partnerships, and participation to promote climate action activities.
