Why Greeen Economy?

Today, the world is working towards achieving sustainable development goals, and one way of attaining it is through economic development. Indeed, we need a fully developed world, especially economically, to achieve various life expectations. Surprisingly, advanced economic growth comes with the expense of ecological degradation. Economic development involves the production of harmful gases into the atmosphere through increased industrialization that uses more fossil fuel, hence climate change. The need to sustainably reduce the effects of climatic change calls for adopting a green economy.

The World Resource Institute describes a green economy as a unique vision for improving the population’s livelihoods through growth and development in a manner comparable with sustainable development. Therefore, achieving a sustainable goal focusing on climate action requires a green economy to have a reliable and healthy environment for all populations and species. In other words, as we achieve economic growth, we need to conserve our environment, minimize ecological degradation, mitigate the emission of hazardous gases to the atmosphere, and promote environmental regeneration.

The pathway to a green economy needs a unified and strengthened policy, good political will, organizational support, and active participation between the private and public sectors and community stakeholders. All these aspects foster a green economy and make it acceptable and feasible to all people. Secondly, the green economy focuses on certain principles, including people’s well-being, equality, global boundaries, efficiency, and good governance. Consequently, it recognizes that nature is varied and cultural-based, and good decisions must be made to ensure the sufficiency and effectiveness of economic growth for all people.

Some sure ways of adopting a green economy are waste management programs, promoting green infrastructure, enhancing sustainable technological development, and practicing climate-smart agriculture, among others. Adopting a green economy is essential and will help the world achieve its sustainable goals while reducing the effects of climatic change. If we prevent the impact of global warming, we will all be working toward one goal: reducing climatic change sustainably. Green Ecosystem Initiative will always work and collaborate with institutions that supports the implementation of green economy to enhance the protection of our biodiversity.  It all begins with you and me to make the change happen.
